On being "special"

Recently, someone told me that I am "special" because of how I "turned out," given my seriously turmoiled childhood.

I responded, "No, I am NOT special." Most people can turn out to be great citizens and good people if they want to. The reason I wrote the book for foster kids is that we need to reverse the "surprise" when they become wonderful, productive human beings.

We need to help others take a "no excuses" approach to helping all people become healthy and happy.

Help, yes. Excuses, no.
